Senior Advisor, Extractive Industries and Human Development Center

Tom contributes a business and industry perspective to the work of the Center stemming from his management experience in the natural resource extraction and processing industries.  He also brings the perspective of experience in diverse national and cultural settings.

Tom spent over 30 years working in the energy and petrochemical industry for major integrated petroleum companies.   He had roles in business development, project management, joint venture management, asset and operations management, engineering leadership, project development, process design, and engineering.  He provided corporate oversight of projects and project personnel, and spearheaded development of corporate philosophies for project management and execution.  His responsibilities included interacting with regulators, government officials, business partners, service providers, and customers.  He was also involved in the joint ventures.

Tom and his family lived in China, Russia, the Netherlands, England, and Scotland for a substantial portion of his career with petroleum companies.  Upon the conclusion of his career working directly for petroleum companies, Tom has served as a consultant in the areas of organization leadership, project management, and strategy development.  He has developed and taught a leadership course for 10 years at the University of South Florida.
